Description

Delightfully crispy apple fritters with warm apple chunks and aromatic spices, perfect for any cozy gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup peeled and diced apples (about 12 medium-sized apples)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or substitute with plain yogurt)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (use almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gently pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  3. Fold in the diced apples carefully.
  4. In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove fritters using a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels.
  7. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth, then drizzle over the warm fritters.

Notes

For the best flavor, use firm apples like Granny Smith. You can substitute buttermilk with yogurt mixed with water or milk.
