Description
A comforting and flavorful dish with layers of creamy cheese and perfectly seasoned ground beef, nestled between crispy slices of bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 slices sourdough or white bread
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart using a spatula, then add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the beef is fully browned, usually about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper, followed by the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the liquid has reduced.
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Place two slices of bread, butter side down, on the skillet. Layer a generous amount of the beef mixture and a mix of cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread, butter side up.
- Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is gooey. Remove from skillet and slice in half.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
For variations, consider adding chopped vegetables like spinach or mushrooms, or substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or a vegetarian alternative.
