- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil or cooking spray for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until fragrant and translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk, whisking until smooth, then season with salt and pepper.
- Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
- Spoon half of the ground beef and onion mixture over the potatoes, followed by half of the cheese.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and top with the rest of the cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, mix in spices or fresh herbs. You can also use lean ground beef for a healthier version.
