- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1½ cups Panko breadcrumbs
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- Chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch casserole dish with nonstick spray.
- Spread shredded chicken evenly in the dish, then layer Swiss cheese over the chicken.
- Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan, whisk in the mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, nutmeg, and cayenne until blended.
- Add flour and whisk until it forms a paste, then gradually whisk in the milk and simmer for 4 minutes until thickened.
- Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the cheese layer.
- Mix Panko breadcrumbs with remaining butter and spread on top of the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Allow casserole to cool before serving for better structure. Experiment with adding different herbs or substituting ingredients to suit your preferences.
