A simple yet flavorful dish blending tender steak and vibrant broccoli in a garlicky sauce, perfect for weeknight family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (or skirt steak, or any preferred cut)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock (or beef stock)
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice (or white grape juice or broth)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar (or white sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced

Instructions

  1. Slice the steak against the grain into thin slices. Marinate with soy sauce, peanut oil, and cornstarch for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, steam the broccoli with 1/4 cup of water until tender and bright green, then set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat oil and cook the marinated beef until browned, then add garlic and ginger, stirring until fragrant.
  4. Return the broccoli to the skillet, pour over the sauce, and cook until thickened. Serve hot.

Notes

Prep the beef and broccoli ahead of time to save on cooking time. Don’t overcook the beef to maintain tenderness.
