Description

A classic homemade Southern meatloaf that’s cozy, easy to prepare, and full of rich flavors, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds lean beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the lean beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onions, salt, pepper, and eggs in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish.
  4. Mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard in another bowl.
  5. Spread the glaze over the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for about 1 hour or until cooked through.
  7. Let it rest before slicing.

Notes

Don’t overmix the ingredients to avoid a dense loaf. Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfect doneness at 160°F (70°C). Consider making ahead and storing it for up to 5 days in the fridge or freezing it for 3 months.
