Description
Delicious caramel apple empanadas that are crispy, sweet, and perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (preferably Granny Smith)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar or more caramel for drizzling
Instructions
- Peel and dice the apples into small chunks. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and caramel sauce. Toss to coat and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crusts and cut circles about 4 inches in diameter. Place a spoonful of filling in the center, fold, and seal the edges.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and crisp.
Notes
Chill the dough if difficult to handle, and experiment with spices for additional flavor.
