Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French bread (preferably a day or two old)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Sugar for caramelizing (about 1/4 cup)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well blended.
  2. Slice the French bread into thick pieces and arrange in a greased baking dish. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and let soak, covered, in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the French toast for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown on top. Caramelize sugar on top using a kitchen torch or broiler, then serve warm.

Notes
