- 1/2 cup cold butter, chopped into chunks
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- Vanilla ice cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare the apple filling by peeling and slicing the apples into thin slices.
- Cook the apples with lemon zest, juice, sugars, flour, and spices in a skillet for about 20 minutes until fork tender.
- Add vanilla to the cooled apple mixture, then transfer to a greased casserole dish.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Mix the dry ingredients for the cobbler topping in a large bowl.
- Combine wet ingredients, then mix with the dry until it forms a shaggy dough.
- Assemble the cobbler topping over the apple filling, scatter butter on top, and sprinkle sugar.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool for 15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.
