- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract (optional)
- Royal icing or store-bought icing in various colors
- Edible decorations (mini footballs, sprinkles or candy)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then blend in vanilla and almond extracts.
- Gradually add dry mix into wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out chilled dough to about ¼-inch thick and use a cookie cutter to shape into football fields.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For healthier options, substitute half the flour with whole wheat or almond flour. For dairy-free, use vegan butter or coconut oil.
