Description
Homemade soft buttery pretzels paired with a creamy salsa verde dipping sauce, perfect for family gatherings and cozy nights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (like cheddar or Monterey Jack)
- 1/2 cup salsa verde
- 1/4 cup cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and allow to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture, mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and roll into ropes, shaping into pretzels.
- Boil about 10 cups of water and add the baking soda. Drop in pretzels one at a time for about 30 seconds.
- Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For the dipping sauce, combine shredded cheese, salsa verde, cream cheese, and olive oil in a saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth.
Notes
Keep water warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly. Experiment with different cheese and dipping sauces for variety.
