- 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
- 1/2 cup raspberry jam (or your favorite fruit preserves)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, and salt; set aside.
- Cream together butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
- Add egg yolk, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until combined.
- Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
- Form dough balls and press a heart shape into each using your finger or a cookie stamp.
- Chill dough balls in the freezer for 30 minutes or refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Fill each heart indent with 1/2 teaspoon of warmed jam.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
Notes
Chill your dough to maintain shape and avoid overbaking. Feel free to experiment with different jams and add-ins.
