  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • ¼ cup freshly chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Naan bread (for serving)
  • Steamed rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with salt, garlic powder, sweet paprika, curry powder, and Greek yogurt. Let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet, and sauté minced garlic and diced onion until soft, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add tomato sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, heavy cream, cayenne pepper, garam masala, and curry powder to the skillet. Stir and let it simmer for a few minutes.
  4. In a separate pan, cook the marinated chicken over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, about 8–10 minutes. Transfer chicken to the tomato sauce.
  5. Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and let the butter chicken simmer to blend flavors, then serve hot garnished with parsley.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider swapping heavy cream for coconut cream or a mix of yogurt and broth. To make it vegetarian, substitute chicken with chickpeas.
