- 2 large potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
- 1 small onion (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil or butter for frying
Instructions
- Peel and grate the potatoes (and onion, if using).
- Rinse the grated potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch, then drain and squeeze out moisture with a clean kitchen towel.
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add grated potatoes in an even layer and press down slightly.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy, then flip to cook the other side until golden.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
For a cheesy delight, add shredded cheese on top during the last few minutes of cooking. Don’t rush the cooking process to ensure a nice crust forms.
