  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until well blended. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet, stirring until just combined. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. Scoop tablespoons of dough, roll into balls, and coat in powdered sugar. Place on the prepared baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and tops are crinkled. Cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a healthier option, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Use beet juice as a natural coloring alternative if needed.
