A comforting dish featuring layers of sweet potatoes, tart cranberries, and rich Gruyère cheese, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or non-dairy alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (or olive oil for a vegan option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Layer half of the sweet potato slices in a greased baking dish.
  2. Spread half of the cranberries over the sweet potato slices and sprinkle half of the shredded Gruyère cheese on top.
  3. Mix heavy cream with salt, pepper, and nutmeg, then pour over the layered ingredients.
  4. Repeat the layering process with the remaining sweet potatoes, cranberries, and cheese.
  5. Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle on top. Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Slice sweet potatoes evenly for even cooking. Feel free to include additional seasonings or mix in fresh herbs for enhanced flavor.
