Description
This simple, flavorsome homemade burger delivers a tender, juicy patty with a perfect sear, served on a soft bun with crisp veggies and condiments. A quick, satisfying meal for any night, reminiscent of steakhouse quality right in your kitchen.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20 chuck)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (e.g., canola or vegetable)
- 4 high-quality burger buns (brioche or potato)
- 4 slices American or cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1 cup shredded iceberg or romaine lettuce
- 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- Dill pickle slices
- Ketchup, mustard, and/or mayonnaise
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. Gently mix until just combined, avoiding overworking the meat.
- Divide mixture into four 6-oz portions. Form each into a 3/4- to 1-inch-thick patty. Create a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Heat oil in a skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Cook patties 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. Add cheese in the last 30 seconds for melty results.
- Toast buns lightly in a dry pan or oven.
- Assemble burgers: bun bottom, patty, cheese (if using), lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, condiments, and top bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Gentle handling prevents toughness.
- Cook to medium-rare (warm center) for juiciness. Avoid pressing patties while cooking.
