- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Sprinkle yeast over warm water and add sugar. Let sit until foamy (5-10 minutes).
- In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in yeast mixture and melted butter, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 8 portions, and roll each into an 18-inch rope. Shape into pretzels.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Boil 10 cups of water and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
Experiment with toppings and shapes! For a healthier option, use whole wheat flour.
