- Red food coloring (natural alternative)

Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, then gradually mix in the dry mixture.
- Divide the dough, add red food coloring to one half, then shape both into logs and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and slice the chilled dough into 1/4 inch thick pieces.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to stamp out cookies and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden.
- Cool the cookies and decorate as desired.
