Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • Coarse salt (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: melted butter for brushing after baking

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a bowl, create a well, and add yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix to form dough and knead for 5–7 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into four pieces. Roll each piece into a 1/2 inch thick rope and cut into 1–2 inch segments.
  5. Boil water with baking soda, then drop in pretzel bites for 30 seconds on each side.
  6. Place on a baking sheet, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake at 450°F for 10–12 minutes until golden brown. Optionally brush with melted butter.
