Description
A comforting dessert made from day-old bread, creamy custard, and a hint of whiskey, perfect for celebrating life’s little joys.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups day-old bread, cut into cubes
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk (or non-dairy alternative)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup whiskey (or apple juice for a family-friendly substitute)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Optional add-ins: ½ cup chocolate chips, ½ cup dried cherries or cranberries, ½ cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl and let it sit to slightly dry out.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, whiskey (or apple juice), ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold with a spatula. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb the custard.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle any optional mix-ins on top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the pudding is risen and golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
