Ingredients

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cut into cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or non-dairy alternative)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whiskey (or apple juice for a family-friendly substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Optional add-ins: ½ cup chocolate chips, ½ cup dried cherries or cranberries, ½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the cubed bread in a large mixing bowl and let it sit to slightly dry out.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, whiskey (or apple juice), ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold with a spatula. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb the custard.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle any optional mix-ins on top.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the pudding is risen and golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
