Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oil or 1 stick (1/2 cup) melted butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. Mix together oil or melted butter with cocoa powder and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Fold in flour and salt until just combined, then add chocolate chips and walnuts.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  6. Check for doneness with a toothpick, cool for 10 minutes before cutting.

Notes

For a lighter brownie, use oil instead of butter. Customize with different types of chocolate chips or nuts.
